GOD AS SHIELD

Happy Tuesday to you!

Many of us focus on only a few of the characteristics of God. For instance, you may hear people declare (often) that God is love, or God is just. Yet, how often do we look to HIM as our present help? One of the roles that God maintains in our lives is that of a shield. There are various verses in the bible that speak to that component of HIS character. So, let’s take a moment to consider the definition of the word ‘shield’. The noun form of the word means: 1. A broad piece of metal or another suitable material, held by straps or a handle attached on one side, used as a protection against blows or missiles. 2. A thing or person who provides protection. The verb form of the word means to protect (someone or something) from a danger, risk, or unpleasant experience

How many times in your life have you tried to look out for yourself? How many times have you relied on defense mechanisms to keep yourself from harm? How many times have you failed miserably at protecting yourself? How many times have you created more problems for yourself during attempts at self-defense? Really, reflect on these questions. In these moments of self-reliance, were you aware of the role of God as your shield? Did you doubt HIS ability to serve as your protection? It’s okay to admit your times of doubt. This post is just here to inform some and remind others that it is time to trust God as a shield.

God loves you so much that He came in the form of sinful flesh to pay the price for your sins. If He was willing to die once for the redemption of all, imagine the length He would go to in order to keep you from harm. God knows the things that scare you. He is aware of the circumstances that plague you with distress. He wants to be a continual barrier between you and trouble. God wants to be a fortress around your life. In fact, He has been your shield. Many more troubles could have come your way; yet, God prevented the calamity. So, release your problems and concerns to Him right now. Wherever you are, express to God what you need Him to shield you from in 2015. Each day, as you make it a point to tell Him thank you, remind God of the role He plays in your life as shield. Let God know that you thank Him for being your protection, and you need Him to continue covering your life.
