The Quest for Spiritual Wellness

As a person, you consist of more than just the physiological. You are also a spiritual being. Yet, how much of your fitness or wellness regimen caters to the needs of your spirit? By now, you know the importance of rest to every aspect of your health. So, this post doesn’t pertain to rest. Rather, I want to focus on your sensitivity to the effect of your actions on your spirit.

The conversations you participate in, the shows you watch, the people you fellowship with all have an effect on your spirit. Sometimes, we form habits that revolve around people, places, and things to the detriment of our spiritual wellness. While exposing our spirits to certain conditions, we begin to feel anxious, uneasy, or sorrowful. For example, there are certain television shows and dialogues that have troubled my spirit. I am deeply troubled by vulgarity and hatred. You may have similar things that make your spirit uncomfortable. So how do we get to a place where our spirit can experience healing and wellness?

To begin with, we have to constantly evaluate our surroundings, our relationships, and our actions. Subsequently, we have to be honest about the things that we’re allowing to endanger our spiritual wellness. Most importantly, we have to commit to the necessary adjustments that will allow us to experience healing. For me, an adjustment would be not watching certain television shows. You may have a different adjustment to make.

Of course, this is not an easy undertaking. If it was, every single person would be able to do it. Nevertheless, let us hold each other accountable. Talk to a trustworthy friend who wants to join you in a quest for spiritual wellness. Discuss the things in your lives that are causing you to be spiritually ill. Develop concrete plans on how to improve your spiritual health. Check in with one another to ensure progress occurs. There’s strength in numbers. So remain united, and don’t surrender to defeat.

Isaiah 52:11 Depart ye, depart ye, go ye out from thence, touch no unclean thing; go ye out of the midst of her; be ye clean, that bear the vessels of the Lord. 1 Corinthians 6:19 What? know ye not that your body is the temple of the Holy Ghost which is in you, which ye have of God, and ye are not your own? 20 For ye are bought with a price: therefore glorify God in your body, and in your spirit, which are God's.
