In the lack of regard for human life, there is the lack of regard for the sovereignty of God. We should all be cognizant of this fact—society has lost its lack of regard for the Almighty. We think we have such great power and that we are accountable to no one. Yet, in our earthly lives and after our transitions, we are accountable to God. There is no escaping God. There is no avoiding the consequences of our choices— good or bad. Our lives matter to God. Our lives should matter to one another.

What is this excuse for rampant violence? What is this excuse for lack of gun control? God’s law is supreme. Thou shalt not kill. Thou shalt love thy neighbor as thyself. Thou shalt not steal. The blood of the murdered cries unto the Almighty from the ground. We fool ourselves to think that our unrighteous ideologies, systems, and governments are sustainable. Nevertheless, the weight of sin and lawlessness is causing these infrastructures to crumble. There is a time of reckoning.

The call for justice must be relentless and unfeigned. The pursuit for righteousness must be all consuming. We must fight daily to see God in ourselves and God in others. We must vehemently oppose hatred and its ugly manifestations. We cannot be silent and inactive while sin has a stronghold in our communities. We have no justification for the brutality that we permit through our statutes and policies. We must take every righteous step to uproot violence.

Vote for gun control. Vote for criminal justice reform. Vote for education reform. Advocate for justice for the oppressed. Learn to honor the Almighty. Learn to love our neighbors as ourselves. Learn to respect the sanctity of human life. Acknowledge the destructive nature of sin and establish safeguards against all manner of evil.

Psalm 14:1 Fools say in their hearts, “There is no God.” They deal corruptly, their deeds are vile, not one does what is right. 2 From heaven Adonai observes humankind to see if anyone has understanding, if anyone seeks God. 3 But all turn aside, all alike are corrupt; no one does what is right, not a single one. 4 Don’t they ever learn, all those evildoers, who eat up my people as if eating bread and never call on Adonai? 5 There they are, utterly terrified; for God is with those who are righteous. 6 You may mock the plans of the poor, but their refuge is Adonai.
